Bord na Móna is the leading branded marketer of solid fuel products within the residential heating market in Ireland. It owns category leading brands – Bord na Móna Peat Briquettes and Black Diamond Coal. It also leads the development of the convenience solid fuel category with the Bord na Móna Firelog and Firepak® which are easy to use solid fuel packs. It has recently supplemented this range with BBQ handipacks. It also manufactures firelighters.

Bord na Móna has an excellent track record of value enhancing bolt on acquisitions since first acquiring Coal Distributors in 1995 and Suttons in 1998. Many smaller acquisitions since but nonetheless large enough to offset market decline.

Through its Suttons Oil business, which it conducts in the South and West of Ireland it competes in the home heat, commercial, agricultural, marine and auto-diesel sectors.

Its strategy is to enhance company value by careful management of the existing business while seeking out new opportunities in the convenience sector and renewables businesses.
